Ecuador play Germany in their final Group E match at the New Jersey Stadium in New York. Four-time winners Germany have uncharacteristically struggled at the past two World Cups, going out in the group stage on both occasions. Ecuador proved incredibly hard to beat in South American qualifying, conceding just five times in 18 matches as they finished second behind Argentina and ahead of the likes of Brazil and Colombia. These two teams have met once before at a World Cup, with Germany winning 3-0 in the group stage of the 2006 tournament.
