Pep Guardiola is plotting to make Man City even more formidable!
Pep Guardiola, the manager of the recently-crowned English Premier League champions, Manchester City now has an enviable task on his hand – making the best better. The world-renowned coach is now finalising his transfer plans for the summer window, and will soon have a meeting with the club’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain and Chief Executive Ferran Soriano. It is fairly evident that the Spaniard is already aware of the fault lines in the squad that managed to amass a huge 198 points over the past 2 EPL seasons.
Those of you who backed Manchester City to go all the way, edging out Liverpool, would have already reaped handsome profits in the betting markets. There are several online betting sites that offer odds on the transfers too, and with the summer transfers round the corner, you can start prepping your betting strategy now.
Eyes firmly on the future
Getting back to Manchester City FC, having emphatically won the second Premier League title, beating Brighton 4-1 has made Guardiola’s pursuit for perfection even stronger. He spoke of the visible weaknesses in the Manchester City squad even when the celebrations were still echoing through the South Coast corridors.
As of now Guardiola is keen on adding another important dimension to their play for the next season, and do away with any weaknesses that their rivals can exploit. Having recruited only one player last summer, Pep is planning to be very busy in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Planning to make up for the last year’s lack of hires
Having seen how Liverpool spent close to £ 250 million to almost do away with the 25-point margin between them and the last season’s champions, Guardiola is convinced that he should respond in kind. When they lost 3 out of 4 games in December, everyone thought that they should have invested more last year.
Manchester City failed to recruit a cover for Fernandinho during the last two transfer windows and that had a very damaging effect when the Brazilian had to sit-out during back-to-back defeats against Leicester City and Crystal Palace. Pep Guardiola is serious about addressing that issue now, and wanting to add more height and physical strength to his site, he could very well be gunning for 6’2” Rodri of Atletico Madrid. Considering that the player has a release clause of £ 60 million, it’s going to avoid the kind of bidding war they fought against Chelsea while chasing Jorginho last year.
More possibilities
Tanguy Ndombele of Lyon also fulfils the physical qualities that Pep Guardiola is after. The manager will also need to hire a new centre back with Nicolas Otamendi scheduled to leave. Everyone is hoping for him to sign up Matthijs de Ligt to fill that gap.
To everyone’s surprise, Pep isn’t going after any left back this time, despite the ongoing fitness problems faced by Benjamin Mendy. The French international player had to recently visited Barcelona to undergo more treatment on his knee. City might need to change their strategy if Mendy faces further fitness problems.
Talking to the press, Pep cordial said, “We are going to decide what the team needs and everybody needs to still be consistent. We have to make the right decisions for next season to come back stronger, because Liverpool will maintain it and the other ones will be better.”
